Hello MiNdependents!
Well I'm sorry, its been far too long and the developments seem to come one right after the other. I certainly should have made a post about Baracks amazing fundraising effort, but it seemed like everything had already been said. However I will comment that I think it just goes to show that he's as legitimate a candidate as anyone out there, including a certain troglodite...and since that word describes so many of the candidates and incumbants, I think its fair that you're not sure who I'm referring directly.
I wrote a letter to a writer who seemed to be blasting Obama unfairly. The writer, Richard Baehr, was blasting Obama's characterization - or as he put it, politicization - of the Virginia Tech massacre, I read the same speech and did not find it to be as much of an affront as he did and I said as much. I might have been a little strong in my wording because his reply reminded me that Obama is Presidential candidate, and a lot of stuff that I don't agree with is going to be coming up. I replied to him that he was absolutely right, and I thought that if Obama was worth his salt, he could take his licks. The point is, Mr. Baehr reminded me that there are going to be people out there who are not going to vote for Obama no matter what. There are going to be some from his own party even that try to cut him down and ruin him. Little stories will be blown out of proportion and molehills uplifted into mountains. But the fact remains that if Barack Obama is the man I think he is, that many of us think he is, that stuff won't matter. If he's allowed to speak - which he obviously has been and will continue to be - I believe he'll do most of the winning of hearts and minds on his own. I've got faith, and I can be wrong - and was.
