Why Obama?
I believe, we need something new, something fresh, we need to take a step we've never taken before to begin a journey we've never been on. There are certain things that this country needs to do in this century, and we're on the wrong track. Youth, fire, and exuberance...these are things that I see in Barack Obama. I see a deeply analytical person who is willing to say or do things that may not be in agreement with the latest polls or study groups.
Therein lies my reason for backing Obama. The two-party system no longer produces lawmakers with any desire or need to serve constituents, only the party. If the party controls the hearts and minds of our leaders, where do we fit in? I want a leader who will make decisions based on how it affects regular Americans. I especially want a leader who is familiar with the plight of inequality among our people. Inner-city living conditions, education, job opportunities and discrimination are major hurdles that our current leaders seem unconcerned about. The way that we’ve forgotten about New Orleans is shameful. The “stay the course” attitude in the Middle East is abhorrent.
I think Barack Obama is a person who can inspire – and it’s been a long, long time since Americans were inspired. When we are inspired, we can do anything. With today’s technology and the desire for meaning that so many Gen Y, X and late boomers feel, what could we accomplish with a real leader? Clean energy? Men on the Moon and Mars? Peace? I get goose-bumps thinking about it.
